Rolater Park

This 29-acre park just off Cave Spring’s downtown was gifted to the city by a former resident.

Towards the back of the park you’ll find the namesakes of this small, Georgia town. Cave Spring Cave is a limestone cave with stalagmites and a legendary “Devil’s Stool” rock formation. The cave maintains a consistent 57-degree temperature which makes it a perfect stop on a hot summer day.

Accessibility: The dampness of the cave and steepness of the steps make for a slippery ascent to the more remote area of the cave. Entrance into the initial room of the cave is a relatively level pebble walkway, without steps.

From the cave, flows a spring that produces 2 million of gallons of water per day.

Just beyond the cave is a small pond, stocked with trout. While fishing is prohibited, except for approved tournaments, bags of food can be purchased to feed the fish.

The pond then feeds into a shallow pebble-bottomed creek which flows on to a swimming lake within the park. The spring-fed creek is a perfect spot for children to cool off on hot days.

Rolater Lake is a 1.5 acre public swimming lake in the shape of Georgia! It is the second largest of its kind in the state. The fenced-in area includes a snack bar, volleyball area, picnic tables, and bathhouse.

A playground within the park boasts multiple climbing structures, slides and swings. Picnic pavilions can be renter through the park’s website.

Hearn Inn is located within the park and offers meeting rooms and overnight lodging. The building was originally the female dormitory for the Georgia School for the Deaf.
