Fort McAllister

Located south of Savannah on the banks of the Ogeechee River, Fort McAllister State Park is a scenic park showcasing preserved earthwork of the Confederacy. Many visitors seek out this location for camping, fishing, boating and picnicking. Visitors can also explore cannons, a furnace, bombproof barracks, palisades and more from the Civil War. The park’s museum includes artifacts, a video and a gift shop. There are 4 miles of hiking trails, a large picnic area with a playground, boats ramps and a fishing pier. Cottages sit on stilts around the marsh, and a shaded campground welcomes tents and RV campers near a creek. There are bathrooms and shower areas. Visitors can also rent kayaks, canoes or paddleboards to take out on the river.
