Georgia Sea Turtle Center

The Georgia Sea Turtle Center is the state’s first education and rehabilitation center for sea turtles. The center provides emergency care to injured and sick turtles while bringing awareness to the issues that threaten the sea turtle population.

Visitors enter the center through the gift shop, where a portion of the proceeds goes towards sea turtle rehabilitation. Public restrooms are available by the ticket counter. After purchasing tickets, visitors walk through the gift shop to the education center and its exhibits. In the back of the education center, a glass window offers visitors a view of the operating room where injured sea turtles receive care.

The exit of the education center leads visitors to a separate pavilion: the Sea Turtle Hospital. The hospital hosts all the sea turtles in rehabilitation. Each sea turtle is separated and placed in an inflatable swimming pool with a patient sheet on display for visitors to get to know more about them. Patient sheets include the turtle’s name, symptoms, treatment, and a fun fact.

According to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, all species of sea turtles have been listed as endangered or threatened and are in dire need of our protection.
