Sweetwater Creek

Sweetwater Creek State Park is a nature escape located less than 30 minutes from downtown Atlanta. Parkgoers can explore historic mill ruins burned during the Civil War and 15 miles of trails. The 215-acre George Sparks Reservoir is popular for fishing, but there is no swimming allowed. There are two fishing docks and one boat ramp. A seasonal bait shop offers fishing supplies. The park rents fishing boats, canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and pedal boats. Visitors can join the Park Paddlers Club, which challenges them to explore state park waterways. Kids can have fun on the two playgrounds, and seven picnic shelters offer a spot to enjoy lunch. There is also outdoor fitness equipment. With multiple entrances to park area, you’ll definitely want to check out the map before your trip!
Sweetwater Creek’s visitor center includes exhibits on the area’s history, wildlife displays, trail maps and snacks. Overnight guests can stay at one of the 10 yurts or spend a night under the stars at the park’s campsite. An event room that seats 40 can be rented for gatherings.
